Was flipping through some old Edmonton newspapers from back in the day and thought I would snap a few ads for a throwback.

Amazing to think of what was being sold... and for how much back then.

If anyone wants to work the inflation numbers it might be interesting to see.

As well, consider that if inflation outstrips pricing, how far the industry has come in terms of safety and design while charging not much more.

Kinja'd!!!

Just imagine paying close to 200 bucks a month for a new off the lot 1989 Chev Sprint or Suzuki Swift. Be still my beating heart.

Kinja'd!!!

However, a new off the lot Corolla GTS of that vintage for 17? Possible. Or how about a 30000 dollar 1989 Cressida with a built in radar detector. Future!

Kinja'd!!!

City Ford's longstanding push pull or drag sale. Highlighting the futuristic Probe GL or the Bronco II for almost 15k apiece or nearly 400 a month.

Kinja'd!!!

In the used section. A 10, 900 55 bel-air? Or how about a 1972 BMW 2002 in mint condition for only 2495?! yes plox.

Kinja'd!!!

No comment here except :Value leader in fuel efficiency and sportiness on the same page as Magic Wagon. Thank you Lee ;)

Kinja'd!!!

81 challenger (the weird one) only 3995!

Kinja'd!!!

81 SR5 for 3495, gauge package and alloys, with a stick! Right next to a bran new I-mark Turbo (Which I would probably hit as a new vehicle for 15.

Again, I love that in 1989 dollars you could buy a 29 grand Cressida with a built in radar detector. This amuses me to no end.

The only time in history that "Spectacular" and "Tercel' were ever used in the same sentance?
